Capitol Middle SchoolCapitol Middle School is a state-of-the-art middle school serving students in grades 6, 7 and 8.  The Capitol Middle School Community provides a setting that offers academically and technologically stimulating learning environments for all students.

Our school offers courses in English, social studies, math and science in addition to many varied electives.  We consistently have a large number of our student body on the Honor Roll each nine weeks. We have extended-day school, Saturday Academy, and additional tutoring for LEAP preparation. At Capitol, we have our own broadcasting studio and in-house broadcasting station.  We also have technology-rich reading and math labs as well as a lab available for whole-class computer instructional activities.

The Capitol Middle School faculty and staff are outstanding.  Mrs. Monica Hardy, Mrs. Mary Fuentes, and Ms. Sandra Kuykendall, have all achieved National Board Certification.  Other teachers are also working on this prestigious honor.

Capitol Middle School is the proud recipient of many grants including the GK-12 grant which partners CMS with LSU.  The GK-12 grant offers additional assistance to students in the area of math and staff development to teachers. In addition, Capitol Middle continues to participate in the Technology Improvement Grant which offers new and innovative staff development  in the area of technology to teachers. Capitol Middle also participates in the Wallace Founndation Grant which partners CMS and Southern University along with CMS feeder schools.  The purpose of this grant is to promote literacy and leaders of literacy within the school setting.

Capitol Middle offers many activities in which students can participate.  Boys have the opportunity to be involved with our football, basketball and track teams and the girls have the opportunity to participate in volleyball, basketball and track.

Parents and visitors are welcome at Capitol Middle School at any time.  Please feel free to visit us to see the great things that are going on at Capitol Middle.
